Ampati, Oct 20: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma laid the foundation stone on Tuesday for an ₹8.57 crore state-of-the-art synthetic football ground at Anangpara Playground in South West Garo Hills.
The project forms part of a broader, high-value push by the state government to elevate sports infrastructure across rural districts and offer modern development avenues for local athletes.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Chief Minister Sangma announced that the newly laid synthetic turf is one of five major sports-related initiatives—cumulatively valued at ₹60.05 crore—currently implemented or underway in South West Garo Hills.
“Laid the foundation for a ₹8.57 crore Synthetic Football Ground at Anangpara Playground in South West Garo Hills,” Chief Minister Conrad Sangma wrote. “With 5 sports-related projects worth ₹60.05 crore implemented or underway in the district, we are strengthening sports infrastructure and creating more opportunities for our youth.”
Highlighting the long-term objective of the development, the Chief Minister added that the upcoming facility will act as a launchpad for local football talent looking to compete at higher levels.
“This facility will support football development, nurture local talent and provide a platform for competitive sporting activities, channelling the energy of our youth into positive pursuits,” Sangma stated.
The synthetic turf project aims to address all-weather playability challenges in the region, ensuring that local football enthusiasts and youth teams can train year-round under standardized athletic conditions.
