I'll admit, I didn't understand the appeal of animal print outfits for a long time. I used to judge the motif as somewhat childish, dare I say cheap, or something best left for the maximalist dresser. But now that animal prints of all kinds are trending for fall again, I've seen them styled in so many elegant ways that it's changed my mind and left me inspired to try the look more myself.
The styling potential seems endless. The fashion industry's renewed interest in animal print goes hand-in-hand with the rise of ponyhair texture (which, by the way, isn't made from ponies but rather cow or goat hide), and I'm seeing textured bags, jackets, and shoes with zebra stripes, fawn prints, or cheetah spots everywhere too. The animal print trend has been steadily gaining popularity since Chanel’s spring-summer 2026 collection, where a line of speckled calfhair cap-toe pumps walked down the runway, and Khaite's line of zebra, cow, and snakeskin bags and pumps have also clearly had an influence. Elsewhere, Alaïa’s snakeskin funnel neck jacket still lives rent-free in my head, and I recently checked out a cheetah-print calf hair jacket from Róhe that I'm still thinking about. Contemporary label St. Agni has a fawn-printed bag and column skirt that’s been on my wishlist for some time now too.
As inspiring as those pieces are, it's possible to wear an animal print outfit without spending thousands of dollars. I should know, because I've been sifting through all the major retailers' offerings as I investigate how to wear animal prints for fall and winter 2026. My findings? While you definitely want to consider the material and pattern of the product while shopping, there are plenty of brands that make animal print look elegant under the $100 amount. It all just comes down to how you style it.
How to style animal print
If you’re new to styling animal print like I am, I’d recommend that you don’t mix and match different prints. Don’t get me wrong, you definitely can, and the pros know how to do it right. But those of us who are just dipping our toes into the trend should stick to one motif and keep the rest neutral. Accessories like shoes and bags are the safest route, but a jacket can make a statement and serve as a conversation starter. Keep scrolling for more animal print outfits to wear right now…

Perhaps the easiest way to wear animal print is with do-no-wrong straight-leg jeans, though I do recommend finding a wash that complements the print that you are working with. For the outfit to look as clean-cut as it does on the image above, go for elevated accessories like leather gloves or dark sunglasses. They'll drive home the chic, not cheap aesthetic.

You can wear something as eye-catching as snakeskin pants if you pair it with a neutral top, like a turtleneck sweater. Similar to before, you want to try and match the color palette of the snakeskin print as best as you can, which in this case would be shades of brown and cream. If you’re opting for budget-friendly pants, I recommend wearing slightly more elevated materials on the top. For example, a brushed cashmere turtleneck sweater instantly adds a luxurious touch to the look. It’s more of an investment piece, but one you would get endless amounts of wear out of for years to come.

Animal prints serve as the statement itself, so keep the rest of your look simple. An all-black look never fails to look elegant and serves as a contrasting backdrop to your zebra-print bag. Opt for pointy heels instead of sneakers, wide-leg pants instead of skinny jeans, and a trendy funnel-neck jacket just to dial up the chicness.

The key to making animal print look elegant is to not overthink it. Avoid mixing too many colors, patterns, and layers, and stick to the color palette of the animal print you are working with. Most animal prints are two-toned—zebra prints are black and white, fawn print is brown and white, cheetah print is taupe and black. For a chic but not boring animal print outfit, use only those two colors as part of your look.

Mixed With Different Textures

If you’re feeling a little more daring, you absolutely can mix animal prints with different textures and patterns. This stylish woman paired tweed with leather and ponyhair. However, you’ll notice that for the most part, the colors are all of the same gray-black scale, with the exception of the red cap-toe. It invites the gaze straight to the spotted shoe without being an overtly maximalist outfit.

A loose silhouette has a more mature appeal than a figure-hugging one, which helps balance out the playful touch from the animal print. If you’re looking for an animal print shoe, I recommend a pointy heel, be it a slingback, a boot, or a mule. Anything flat, like a sneaker, has more of a youthful appearance and therefore may not be the best choice for an evening look.

With a Minimalist Outfit

Animal prints may not feel “minimal,” per se, but when styled with a minimalist outfit, they instantly look elegant and help add a bit of excitement back into an otherwise “boring” look. A simple white skirt and trendy funnel-neck leather jacket is chic, yes, but perhaps a little simple. The addition of a giraffe-printed bag instantly turns it into a photo-ready ensemble.

A good Bambi skirt is hard to come by (trust me, I looked), but it adds undeniable style points to your outfit. You don’t need much else for the look—perhaps a comfortable sweater and some flat shoes. A belt and some striking earrings are all you need to accessorize.
