A dollar-backed payment token has received a credit-style report card before it has even finished launching. Particula, a digital asset risk rating provider, assigned a pre-issuance A- rating to $QXMP, a token issued by BitGo Bank & Trust, N.A.
The rating was assigned on September 21, 2026, and announced on October 22, 2026. For a token pitched at corporate treasurers rather than retail traders, an outside grade may matter more than any marketing deck.
What Particula actually graded
$QXMP is pegged to the US dollar. BitGo issues it through its Stablecoin-as-a-Service offering, working alongside Quantum Enhanced Ledger Technology LLC, known as QELT LLC, as the program partner.
Particula’s A- grade leans heavily on the reserve setup. The token is backed 1:1 by segregated, high-quality, short-duration assets, including US dollar deposits and short-duration US Treasuries, with independent verification of those holdings.
The report also points to a robust regulatory compliance framework. That framework is a core reason the token landed in the A range rather than somewhere lower on the alphabet.
The grade was not a clean sweep, though. Particula flagged potential residual risks tied to liquidity, peg stability and reliance on off-chain controls.
How the rating machine works
Particula uses a methodology it calls PDARF for digital asset ratings. The framework measures 129 attributes across three risk pillars.
For context on the scale, Particula has handed out higher marks before. It issued a AAA rating to a WisdomTree tokenized fund, which sits at the very top of the ladder.
So $QXMP lands a few rungs below that ceiling.
The token’s design and timeline
$QXMP is built for enterprise use cases rather than speculation. The target applications include payroll, cross-border payments and settlement.
The structure uses what is described as a dual-reserve model. One leg consists of tokenized real-world asset reserves, while the other is a pool of liquid reserves designed to comply with the GENIUS Act.
The QXMP project site reports more than $1.17 trillion in verified assets slated for tokenization under that dual-reserve structure.
The rollout has been gradual. A public test mint took place in June 2026, and minting has been available on the BitGo platform for accredited accounts since July 2026.
The offering also leans on BitGo’s custody infrastructure. It includes up to $250 million in Lloyd’s insurance as part of the package.
Why a pre-issuance rating matters
Most crypto assets launch first and get scrutinized later. A pre-issuance rating flips that order.
Bond markets have worked this way for decades. Issuers rarely sell debt to large institutions without a grade attached, because many of those buyers have mandates that require one.
For BitGo, the rating adds a layer of outside validation to its Stablecoin-as-a-Service business.
What this means for institutions and the stablecoin market
The most direct beneficiaries are the conservative allocators $QXMP is courting. Corporate treasury teams handling payroll or cross-border settlement care far more about redemption certainty than upside, and a structured third-party assessment speaks their language.
Still, investors should read the risks Particula itself listed rather than stopping at the letter grade. Liquidity, peg stability and off-chain controls are exactly the areas where stablecoins have historically stumbled under stress.
The dual-reserve design adds another variable. Tokenized real-world asset reserves are a newer and less battle-tested category than plain dollar deposits and short-dated Treasuries, so how that leg interacts with the GENIUS Act-compliant liquid reserves will be worth tracking.
The $1.17 trillion tokenization figure also deserves measured interpretation. It is a project-reported number tied to assets slated for tokenization, not a description of reserves already backing circulating tokens.
