The Football Association of Malawi (Fam) is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that the Malawi Women’s National Football Team, the Scorchers, prepare well for the 2027 Fifa Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
The association says it is looking at the possibility of securing high-profile international friendly matches and overseas training camp for the team.

Fam President Fleetwood Haiya disclosed the plans when he hosted a special dinner for the team following its 7-0 thrashing of Zimbabwe in Harare, Zimbabwe, on Tuesday.
Malawi advanced to the second round 9-0 on aggregate after registering a 2-0 victory in the first-leg match played at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe City last week.
Haiya said he would do everything possible to secure friendlies for the team.
“We are going to organise not just friendlies, but international friendlies overseas in Europe, for the Scorchers ahead of the World Cup in Brazil.
“We want to make sure that we are ready for the tournament,” Haiya said.
Prior to the Wafcon finals in Morocco, the Scorchers played an unprecedented 17-plus international matches, including matches against Australia, India, Morocco, South Africa, Ghana and Zambia.
Haiya heaped praise on the players for demonstrating patriotism and commitment.
“It shows that everyone put their heart into it and showed dedication to serve the country. We are proud that you are dedicated to serving your country,” Haiya said.
Meanwhile, Malawi’s Deputy Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Dalitso Kajawo, has commended the Scorchers for their continued exploits, including their impressive run at the Wafcon finals and the Olympic qualifiers.
“I am happy and thankful for what the Scorchers have done. You put Malawi on the map. You do very exciting things,” Kajawo said.
Malawi will face Kenya in the third round of the qualifiers after the Harambe Starlets defeated Seychelles 22-0 on aggregate.
The matches will be played between February 23 and March 6, 2027.
The third round is only the start of a long road to the Olympics.
Once it concludes in March 2027, eight teams will remain.
