KUALA LUMPUR: Police will summon a podcaster to assist in an investigation into claims made on a podcast about drug dealing near the Sentul police headquarters.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said statements had so far been recorded from four people.
The case is being investigated under Section 505 of the Penal Code for statements conducing to public mischief and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for misuse of network facilities.
The offences are punishable by jail terms and a fine.
"We will refer the case to the prosecution as soon as possible," he said on the sidelines of a Taman Angkat Amanita programme.
Fadil said people sharing their experiences on podcasts must do so responsibly to avoid misleading the public or disrupting public order.
"Give us time to complete our investigation," he said.
On Oct 20, Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam said police would record a statement from a former journalist who appeared as a guest on the podcast.
This followed a police report over claims made on the podcast about an incident in 2016.
The former journalist claimed he had monitored drug dealing at a disused house of worship near a police station in Sentul.
