NHN Dooray has completed and begun full operation of Gukbang Ieum, an integrated collaboration platform serving 300,000 personnel across the Ministry of National Defense and the Army, Navy and Air Force.
NHN Dooray said on the 19th that it had started operating Gukbang Ieum, which was developed based on its own collaboration service Dooray!. The company built Dooray at the Defense Integrated Data Center and had provided the service to the defense ministry and selected units since late 2024. With the official launch, coverage has expanded to 300,000 personnel across the ministry, the Army, Navy and Air Force, and units directly under the ministry.
By completing the Gukbang Ieum project, the ministry has consolidated key collaboration functions that had been scattered across multiple organizations and individual units into a single platform, establishing a faster and more efficient foundation for defense administration.
Dooray provides messaging, email, project management, drive storage, scheduling and video conferencing on one platform. Because users can manage multiple tasks in one place, co-edit documents and share schedules in real time, the platform is expected to improve information sharing and work processing between units and organizations.
To secure the confidentiality of internal military information, NHN Dooray built Dooray directly at the Defense Integrated Data Center, which is separated from the external internet. That setup allows internal military data to be managed independently while providing a stable service environment capable of handling large numbers of simultaneous users. The company also put in place a separate update system so that the latest software-as-a-service (SaaS) features and improvements can be applied even on the military network, which is isolated from outside networks.
NHN Dooray plans to discuss adding artificial intelligence-based collaboration features with the ministry. The idea is to upgrade Gukbang Ieum into an intelligent work platform by introducing Dooray AI, which supports drafting documents in various formats including Hancom files (HWP and HWPX).
MTCM, a systems integration firm specializing in the public and defense sectors, took part in the project as a main partner. MTCM handled project management during the construction of Gukbang Ieum and will also support stable operation of the service going forward.
"Dooray has established itself as the official collaboration platform used by all of South Korea's armed forces, and I believe that is the result of the stability and marketability of a service we have proven in the public sector," NHN Dooray CEO Baek Chang-yeol said. "We will continue to reflect improvements and requirements arising in the field in the service, support the building of a smart collaboration system, and take a leading role in contributing to digital transformation and AI transformation in the defense sector."
