Automatic stunt driving is among the Tesla Roadster features Elon Musk promised on October 17, 2026, saying the next-generation car will have “sentience” and perform any stunt demonstrated at its presentation without the owner driving it through the maneuver.
Tesla Roadster features put computers in control
Musk confirmed that the Roadster uses drive-by-wire technology for steering, braking and acceleration. Those controls allow a computer to operate the vehicle.
His comments on X responded to tech blogger Robert Scoble, who described the arrangement as one computer driving another, rather than the owner directly controlling the car. Musk began his reply with “True,” then said the Roadster would be able to perform the demonstrated stunts automatically.
A looping test track in Texas
Tesla plans to build a looping track at its Texas headquarters where owners can test-drive the Roadster. Musk described the planned track as “crazy” and said it would go beyond Hot Wheels.
Production and reservations
The Roadster is expected to enter production in 2028. Tesla expects reservations to open in the coming weeks for buyers in the United States, Canada and China, with a $50,000 deposit.
The reservation deposit has not been announced. Musk gave the production target during the presentation.
A manually driven car with automated stunts
Despite the automated Tesla Roadster features Musk described, he said the model is intended to remain Tesla’s only manually driven vehicle in the long term.
Musk also acknowledged that safety might not be the Roadster’s top design priority and that the vehicle would not necessarily be legal to operate in every region.
