- According to a neighbour, residents became concerned after hearing children crying from inside the house, where they had been locked in.
Residents of Rwambiti Village in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County, were left shocked on Thursday morning after a 40-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend, who fled the scene.
Residents said they did not know what led to the incident.
The woman, identified as Millicah Wambui Wamugunda, worked as a bartender at a local establishment in Rwambiti.
The bar owner, Fredrick Muciimi, said he had employed her in 2013 and described her as a hardworking woman who took care of her children.
“She was a very hardworking woman and customers loved her very much,” Muciimi said.
According to a neighbour, residents became concerned after hearing children crying from inside the house, where they had been locked in.
Upon opening the house, they found Wamugunda lying in a pool of blood.
“When we opened the house, it was a shocking scene. We immediately informed the chief. She and her boyfriend had been fighting,” said neighbour Lucy Watuiri Njue.
Wamugunda’s relatives, who travelled from Gitooini Village in Mwea, expressed grief over her death.
Led by her father, Wamugunda Gakono, and a relative identified as Damaris, the family called for justice.
“We want justice for our daughter,” they said.
Police in Kirinyaga East Sub-County said they had launched investigations into the incident and were pursuing the suspect.
