In 2019, Kanye West purchased a $14.495 million Wyoming ranch spanning 6,713 acres, adding a vast mountain estate to his growing property portfolio. Known as Bighorn Mountain Ranch, the sprawling retreat featured multiple log lodges, woodland cabins, heated helicopter landing pads and streams running through rugged canyons.
Its appeal extended beyond luxury accommodation, with promotional material describing the surrounding wilderness as habitat for approximately 2,000 elk that moved between the ranch and neighbouring public land. The acquisition also reflected West’s wider ambitions in Wyoming, where he had spoken about developing land and creating communities beyond his established life in California.

In November 2019, Architectural Digest reported that Kanye West had acquired a second Wyoming ranch for $14.495 million, shortly after the purchase of another property in the state.
The deal added to the couple’s growing connection with Wyoming, where West had spoken publicly about his interest in developing land and establishing a more permanent base. The second property was known as Bighorn Mountain Ranch. Its history stretched back to 1906, and its 6,713 acres included a varied landscape of canyons, bluffs, mountain country and waterways. Rather than being a single residence surrounded by grounds, the estate contained several groups of buildings spread across the land.
Its scale meant that the purchase involved considerably more than a large house, with the terrain and existing facilities forming much of its appeal.

Five-bedroom lodge, woodland cabins and helicopter access at the Wyoming ranch
One of the principal residences was a log house called The Lodge at Bald Ridge. The five-bedroom property had four bathrooms and overlooked a pond and canyon. Inside, it included a commercial kitchen, while a wraparound deck and wood-burning fireplace added to its traditional mountain-lodge character.Another accommodation complex, Snowshoe Lodge, stood elsewhere on the estate, with several smaller log cabins nearby. The lodge included a wet bar in its basement, and the property also offered walk-in saunas intended for use during the colder months. The buildings provided different places to stay across the ranch rather than concentrating all the accommodation in one main house. The facilities reflected the demands of a property covering thousands of acres.
Visitors and residents could move between separate buildings, while the surrounding landscape provided space for outdoor activities. The ranch also had two heated helicopter landing pads, allowing access by air throughout the year. Greybull, the nearest town mentioned in the property report, was roughly a 10-minute helicopter flight away.
Around 2,000 elk used the ranch and neighbouring public land
Wildlife was another feature of the property. As reported Bighorn Mountain Ranch described the area as habitat used by approximately 2,000 elk.
The animals were reported to move between the private estate and adjoining public land, making the wider landscape important to understanding their presence. The animals' use of neighbouring public land also means the number cannot be taken as a measure of wildlife contained entirely within the privately owned acreage. The landscape offered other opportunities for wildlife watching and outdoor recreation. White Creek ran through the ranch, providing a setting for small-trout fishing, while the surrounding canyons and mountain terrain gave the estate much of its distinctive character.
These natural features were part of what separated Bighorn Mountain Ranch from a conventional luxury residential property.
Kanye West had spoken about building a future in Wyoming
The acquisition came as West was discussing ambitions that extended beyond owning a rural retreat. In an interview with radio personality Charlamagne tha God earlier in 2019, he described property development as a direction he wanted to pursue, referring to plans to create communities and develop cities.
Kim Kardashian also spoke about West's attachment to the state during a September 2019 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She described moving to Wyoming as a long-held dream of his. The comments helped place the ranch purchases within a broader interest in spending time away from the couple's established life in California.
West's public statements did not, by themselves, establish that every development idea would be carried out on Bighorn Mountain Ranch.
They did, however, show that his interest in Wyoming involved more than acquiring a second home. At the time, he was presenting land ownership and development as part of his longer-term ambitions.
A vast rural estate with a different kind of value
Bighorn Mountain Ranch combined residential facilities with a large tract of land used by wildlife and suited to outdoor pursuits. Its cabins, lodges and helicopter pads offered a level of private access associated with high-value rural estates, while its streams, open terrain and connections to neighbouring public land gave it a different character from an urban property. The reported purchase price of $14.495 million reflected the scale of the estate and the facilities already in place. Its 6,713 acres were also a defining feature, particularly given the reported movement of elk across the ranch and adjacent public land. The property became part of the public record of Kardashian and West's Wyoming investments in 2019. The report documented the acquisition and described the estate's features at that time.
