What’s the story?
In July of this year it was announced that Tyson and Paris Fury’s eight-year-old daughter Valencia had been given a brand deal with Superdrug – a collab on the Fantasy range, which Valencia tells her parents’ followers is ‘designed for kids’ like her.
What’s the point?
The products have a similar theme; bright colours, rainbows and hearts and lots of plastic. The wider range includes stationery and hair accessories, but it’s the cosmetics that give us the ick. Superdrug markets it as ‘gentle and full of wonder… to spark imagination.’ Hmmm.
What’s the science?
While the ingredients are cosmetics grade and not considered toxic, a quick scan of these three products on Yuka (a free app that reveals what food and cosmetics ingredients mean for your health) shows a rating of ‘bad’, with scores from 0 to 19 out of 100. Possible carcinogens (mineral oils), plus suspected endocrine disruptors and allergens aren’t something to encourage your child to put on their skin. Plus, you can’t recycle any of it other than the box it comes in.
What’s the verdict?
The bottom line is – a child doesn’t need make-up. Social-media filters and TikTok challenges bombard our kids enough without a cosmetics line adding fuel to the fire. So perhaps leave them out of your party bags.
