One of the biggest transfer stories of the summer was Arsenal’s interest in Vinicius Junior as the Gunners were desperate to add him to their squad. The Brazilian would have been out of contract at Real Madrid at the end of this season, and the Gunners saw that as a chance to take him away.
Madrid and the attacker could not agree on a new contract, and he was ready to leave eight years after he joined them from Brazil. Vinicius is one of the world’s best players, and every club in the world would love to add him to their squad as they believe he can certainly improve their team.
Arsenal’s Pursuit of Vinicius
The attacker can change games alone on his day, so Arsenal was keen on ensuring he joined them if there was even a remote chance that he would leave Madrid. The Spanish side was also keen to keep him in their squad and continued to try to agree on a new deal, which eventually happened, and he stayed.
Some fans and neutrals do not believe Arsenal was close to signing him or that they even made contact to make the move happen, but his agent has confirmed that moving to Arsenal was a solid option. Michael Yormark, president of Roc Nation Sports, told SportsBoom via TNT Sports:
“Arsenal were very involved. They were very aggressive. Did he ever seriously consider Arsenal? I mean, of course. When a team like Arsenal rolls out the red carpet for you, and makes you feel really wanted, then obviously you have to listen.”

What It Means for Arsenal
Yormark’s comments confirm that Arsenal’s interest was genuine, and the club made a serious effort to land the Brazilian. The Gunners’ ambition is clear, and the pursuit of a player of Vinicius’s calibre shows their intent.
The fact that he stayed at Madrid is a blow, but it does not diminish Arsenal’s ambition, and the club will continue to target top players. The fans will be disappointed, but the effort was there.
Vinicius’s quality is not in question, and his decision to stay is a setback for Arsenal. The club’s focus now shifts to other targets, and the pursuit of excellence continues. The Gunners will not give up.
