GLOBE Telecom, Inc. is urging property developers to incorporate telecommunications infrastructure into the planning and design of residential and commercial projects to avoid additional costs associated with installing connectivity facilities after construction.
Globe President and Chief Executive Officer Carl R. Cruz said telecommunications requirements should be considered early in the development process rather than addressed after building designs have been finalized.
“The earlier we bring those perspectives together, the better we can plan for what comes next. While the plans are still being shaped, let us sit down together and determine what needs to be built in from the start, with enough flexibility to evolve over time,” Mr. Cruz said in a statement on Sunday.
The company said early coordination between telecommunications providers and property developers could help reduce the need for redesigns and retrofitting to accommodate connectivity infrastructure.
It could also allow developers to identify potential installation constraints before construction plans are finalized, Globe said.
The telecommunications provider’s proposal comes amid the government’s ongoing review of the National Building Code of the Philippines.
Globe said the review presents an opportunity to include telecommunications infrastructure among the requirements for new buildings.
“Globe has emphasized the need to incorporate telecommunications infrastructure, including fiber-ready facilities and in-building connectivity solutions, into building standards to ensure reliable connectivity from the outset, reduce costly retrofitting, and support future digital needs,” the company said.
Globe said it intends to work with property developers and other industry stakeholders to incorporate connectivity requirements into development planning. — Sheldeen Joy Talavera
