The High Court has scheduled November 5, 2026, to consider an application by the sixth accused person in the alleged GH¢261 million French cocaine bust case, Helena Akua Denkyi, seeking to have her name struck off the charge sheet.
The application, filed on September 30, 2026, was brought to the court’s attention during proceedings, with defense counsel indicating that the Attorney-General’s Department had been served with a hearing notice but had not filed an affidavit in opposition.
Counsel for the sixth accused stated that the application was initially expected to be heard on October 8, but the court did not sit, prompting a rescheduling to October 14. However, the court noted that it was only being informed of the application for the first time during the latest proceedings.
The presiding judge indicated that the court needed time to examine the contents of the application before it could be considered. The case involves six accused persons: Francis Narh Amanor, Frank Adu Boahene, Togbe Agbeti, Andrews Tetteh Amponsah, Daniel Laryea, and Helena Akua Denkyi, all of whom were present in court.
During the proceedings, the prosecution informed the court that it was diligently working to file the necessary disclosures to enable the trial to proceed and requested an adjournment. In response, defense counsel welcomed the prosecution’s statement, suggesting it indicated that investigations had been completed, and consequently prayed the court to grant bail to the accused persons.
The judge, however, directed the defense to formally move the bail application, noting that the prosecution was not in a position to respond to an application that had not been formally brought before the court. Defense counsel subsequently urged the court to grant a shorter adjournment of two weeks rather than a month.
The court ultimately scheduled November 5 for the application by Helena Akua Denkyi to strike out her name from the charge sheet. The prosecution is expected to file the outstanding disclosures to facilitate further proceedings in the case.
