After prolonged deliberations among senior leaders and party cadres, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) high command has announced Dr Mukka Sravani as its candidate for the Mayor’s post in the upcoming Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) elections.
The announcement was made on Friday night, bringing an end to speculation over the party’s choice for the prestigious post. Several names had reportedly been under consideration, with leaders holding discussions before finalising Ms. Sravani’s candidature.
Ms. Sravani is a former corporator from Ward 26 under the erstwhile ward arrangement and the daughter of senior TDP leader Mukka Mutyala Naidu. She belongs to the Kapu community.
The party’s decision comes amid intensifying political activity ahead of the GVMC elections, with nominations having commenced on Friday and campaigning gaining momentum across the city.
The TDP’s announcement sets the stage for a contest with the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), which has already named MLC Varudu Kalyani as its candidate for the Mayor’s post.
