Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman will meet leaders of the party's Chattogram city, north and south district units tomorrow (20 October) to discuss organisational activities and upcoming political programmes, including preparations for the local government elections.
The meeting will be held at Hotel Radisson Blu in Chattogram, with attendance limited to around 500 leaders and activists, party sources said.
According to the itinerary, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to arrive at Chattogram's Shah Amanat International Airport by military aircraft around 6pm.
He will then visit the Sharadiya Durga Puja mandap at JM Sen Hall in Rahmatganj, where he is expected to inspect the venue, exchange greetings with members of the Hindu community and provide financial assistance.
The prime minister was initially scheduled to go to Chattogram Circuit House after the visit to the puja mandap. However, the venue for the organisational meeting has since been changed to Hotel Radisson Blu.
Mahbuber Rahman Samim, BNP central organising secretary and administrator of Chattogram District Council, confirmed the prime minister's visit and said he would attend the meeting with leaders of the city, north and south district units.
Nazimur Rahman, member secretary of Chattogram City BNP, told TBS that the meeting would focus on organisational activities and preparations for the upcoming local government elections.
Given the limited time, the prime minister might not deliver a lengthy speech, he added.
Members of parliament from Chattogram and party leaders with organisational responsibilities are expected to attend.
The gathering will be smaller than the previous meeting on 9 August, with attendance capped at around 500, Nazimur said. The party will also review progress since that meeting.
Asked about competition among BNP leaders in Chattogram, Nazimur said rivalry within a large political party was normal and should not be viewed negatively.
He expressed hope that Tarique Rahman would issue firm directives on party organisation and provide guidance ahead of the elections.
At the 9 August meeting at the same hotel, BNP leaders from Chattogram city, north and south districts discussed organisational activities and other party issues. Tomorrow's meeting will revisit those matters, according to party sources.
