By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Days into his new role, Minister of National Security Michel Chebat is making the rounds.
On Friday, he travelled to Toledo, where he and Dr. Osmond Martinez met with officers at the Punta Gorda Police Station.
The visit came on the same day Chebat attended the Belize Defence Force’s annual Senior Officers’ Conference in Belize City, where he introduced himself to the BDF leadership and shared his vision for the Force.
Chebat has said he plans to meet with leadership and personnel across his portfolio as he settles into the job, which now covers the Police, the BDF and the Coast Guard, as well as Energy and Ports.
His visit to Toledo also comes as the district grapples with security concerns in the south, including reported Guatemalan military activity near the Sarstoon.
Chebat says building trust and supporting officers on the front lines will be key to keeping communities safe.
