The Kaduna state Police command has arrested 12 suspects, including eight suspected kidnappers and four alleged informants, and recovered AK-47 rifles during intensified security operations in Millennium City and Maraban Rido.
The command said the arrests followed clearance operations, targeted raids and patrols conducted in collaboration with other security agencies to address recent security challenges in the affected areas.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, said the eight suspected kidnappers were Dauda Murna, Usman Abdullahi, Abubakar Sulaiman, Saleh Abdullahi, Usman Muhammed, Mathias Moses, Makama John and Tafarki Audu.
The four suspected informants were identified as Shuaibu Sabiu, Audu Makama, Simon Moses and Amadu Mathew.
According to the statement, preliminary investigations indicated that two of the suspects allegedly confessed to leaking information about police operations to criminal elements, including intelligence on security movements.
The police said investigations were ongoing to establish the extent of the suspects’ involvement, identify other accomplices and bring those connected to the alleged criminal activities to justice.
The command also disclosed that the Kaduna State Government had “released three additional Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to strengthen police operations and improve security in Millennium City and its surrounding communities.”
It added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Rabiu, had ordered the immediate deployment of additional tactical personnel, operational vehicles and other security resources to the affected areas to intensify surveillance and improve response times.
The development followed a security engagement held on October 10 by a government delegation led by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Malam Sani Kila, with traditional rulers, community members and other stakeholders in the affected areas.
During the meeting, Kila reportedly emphasised that security was a collective responsibility and urged residents, community leaders, landlords and youth groups to report individuals suspected of aiding criminal activities.
The police also urged residents to remain vigilant, particularly because Millennium City is surrounded by forested areas on the outskirts of Kaduna metropolis, and to report suspicious movements to the nearest police station.
The command assured residents that clearance operations against criminal hideouts would continue, while calling for calm and cooperation in efforts to tackle kidnapping and other crimes across the state.
