The Police Ladies Association (POLAS), Headquarters Chapter, has donated essential items to the Children’s Ward of the Police Hospital in Accra to improve the comfort and well-being of children receiving medical care.
The items, which included mattresses, toiletries, bedsheets, curtains, a refrigerator, a television and disinfectants, were intended to create a more comfortable and conducive environment for children during treatment and recovery.
The donation was made on Friday as part of the association’s commitment to supporting healthcare delivery and expressing appreciation to medical personnel for their dedication to caring for children.
Presenting the items, the Vice President of POLAS, Headquarters Chapter, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Victoria Yamoah, said the association selected the ward because of the vital role its medical personnel played in caring for children.
She explained that, as mothers, members of the association frequently took their children to the hospital for medical attention and understood the importance of the services provided by doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other staff.
The donation, she noted, was a gesture of appreciation for their commitment and an effort to support them in creating a child-friendly environment for patients.
DCOP Yamoah observed that the Police Hospital served not only police personnel and their families but also members of the general public, making it important to ensure that every child who accessed its services received care in a comfortable environment.
She stressed that the well-being of children in hospital went beyond the administration of medication, explaining that their surroundings could also contribute to their comfort and recovery.
Receiving the items, the President of POLAS Medical, Police Hospital Chapter, Linda Vanderpuije, expressed gratitude to the Headquarters Chapter and the national leadership for the gesture.
She said the donation would support the work of the medical team and benefit patients who accessed services at the hospital.
Ms Vanderpuije, on behalf of the medical team and patients, expressed appreciation for the association’s thoughtfulness and generosity, adding that the hospital would continue to need such assistance.
The Head of the Paediatrics Department of the Police Hospital, Chief Superintendent of Police Dr Cyprian Birman, commended POLAS for its continued support, noting that the donation would help provide children with a clean and comfortable environment conducive to their recovery, beyond medication.
Dr Birman added that the support would also reassure police personnel on duty that their children were receiving care in a comfortable setting.
