Efforts are underway in coordination with relevant government agencies to bring former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed back to Bangladesh, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director General Mohammad Nazmul Hasan said.
Responding to journalists’ questions on Thursday afternoon, October 15, Nazmul Hasan said the Home and Foreign Ministries were involved in the process alongside the ACC.
“Regular communication is being maintained with the relevant agencies,” he said.
On June 16, the ACC sent the necessary documents to the Home Ministry through the National Central Bureau (NCB) of police as part of the process to bring Benazir back to the country.
The documents reportedly included case records, an arrest warrant and court orders. Earlier, on July 21, the ACC said Dubai Police had sought case documents and explanations on several issues related to the process of returning Benazir to Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, proceedings are underway at the Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 in a case against Benazir over the alleged acquisition of assets beyond his known sources of income.
