As part of the expanding relationship, Jack Henry will become the first core technology provider to integrate with GCUL, helping financial institutions modernize deposit offerings, strengthen accountholder relationships, and introduce new payment and settlement capabilities. GCUL is a fully managed, distributed ledger service that enables financial institutions to tokenize and transfer money and assets on a shared, real-time record with programmable, 24/7 settlement capabilities.
As consumer and business expectations continue to evolve toward real-time, programmable, and seamless financial experiences, community and regional financial institutions face growing competition from large banks and fintech providers. By integrating tokenized deposit infrastructure into Jack Henry’s ecosystem, banks and credit unions can explore new transactional use cases, enhance digital experiences, and position themselves to meet emerging market demands.
“Tokenized deposits have the potential to reshape how money moves across the financial ecosystem,” said Jack Henry Chief Technology Officer Ben Metz. “Our strategy is centered on helping financial institutions navigate emerging technologies and access innovative capabilities through trusted, scalable infrastructure. By expanding our work with Google Cloud and serving as the first core technology provider to use GCUL, we're helping community banks and credit unions explore new opportunities while building on the relationships, service, and expertise that have always set them apart.”
Jack Henry and Google Cloud established their strategic relationship in 2022 to accelerate Jack Henry’s cloud-native technology modernization strategy. Last June, the companies announced plans to deliver AI-driven security capabilities, integrating Google Cloud's agentic defense solutions to protect banks and credit unions against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. The integration with GCUL combines modern ledger technology with secure, scalable cloud infrastructure to help financial institutions explore new digital asset and payment capabilities.
Key benefits of tokenized deposits through GCUL include:
• Deposit Retention and Growth: Helps financial institutions retain deposit relationships while offering emerging digital payment and value-transfer capabilities.
• 24/7 Programmable User Experience and Near Real-Time Settlement: Provides end clients with instant, 24/7/365 payment execution and automated, programmable workflows across an expanding network of institutional participants, currencies, and asset classes. Supports automated settlement processes and programmable payment workflows that can improve efficiency and flexibility.
• Seamless Integration: Leverages Jack Henry's modern architecture to simplify adoption and reduce operational complexity.
• Trusted Enterprise Infrastructure: Blends Jack Henry’s modern architecture to minimize operational friction and simplify adoption with Google Cloud’s secure, scalable, and resilient distributed ledger infrastructure.
• Capital Efficiency: Maximizes capital efficiency through automated clearing and multilateral netting without requiring liquidity tie-ups or pre-funded accounts, enabling institutions to scale digital asset capabilities while fully preserving core reserves and primary deposit relationships.
“Financial innovation should be accessible to institutions of all sizes,” said James Tromans, director, Web3 and Digital Assets at Google Cloud. “Google Cloud Universal Ledger provides a secure and scalable foundation for programmable value exchange. Through our collaboration with Jack Henry, we are bringing advanced digital asset capabilities to community and regional financial institutions, helping them build on the relationships and trust they have established with their customers.”
