The Punjab government has announced a ban on devices fitted with hidden cameras and covert recording technology. The move aims to protect citizens’ privacy and prevent the misuse of personal information.
A spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department announced the decision on Monday, October 19. The restrictions will cover everyday items such as eyeglasses, pens and watches equipped with concealed recording features. Officials said the measures would particularly focus on protecting women and children.

The department said hidden-camera gadgets had reportedly been used for illegal surveillance, harassment and blackmail. Under the announced restrictions, authorities will take legal action against the use, purchase and sale of devices with concealed cameras or recording functions. The government aims to prevent people from recording others without their knowledge or consent.
The provincial government said it remained committed to protecting citizens’ fundamental rights and private lives. However, the announcement did not specify which laws would govern enforcement or what penalties offenders could face. Officials also did not provide a date for the restrictions to formally take effect.
