The Ogun State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027 and Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, for the Ogun State governorship election.
The group announced its endorsement when its president, Eze Stephen Okorie, led a five-man delegation on a courtesy visit to Adeola over the weekend.
Okorie also disclosed that the organisation would confer the chieftaincy title of “Dike Eji Eje Mba” on the senator at an installation ceremony scheduled to hold in Abeokuta at the end of October.
He said the ceremony would also feature a formal endorsement of Adeola and a declaration of support by Igbos for all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo leader disclosed that he had installed five campaign billboards for Tinubu and Adeola across the state and produced other campaign materials for the senator.
Explaining the rationale for the endorsement, Okorie said his 36 years of residence in Ogun State had afforded him the opportunity to observe the state’s political and developmental trajectory.
He said the infrastructure projects attributed to Adeola, particularly market facilities and road construction aimed at promoting trade and commerce, informed the group’s decision to support his governorship ambition.
“Based on the massive development that Senator Adeola has attracted to Ogun State in the last three years, particularly in the areas of market infrastructure and road construction to promote trade and commerce, the Igbos have no hesitation in endorsing the senator for governor of Ogun State,” he said.
Responding, Adeola expressed appreciation for the endorsement, recalling that Igbos had also supported his political journey during his time in Lagos State.
He said the Eze Ndi Igbo in Lagos had conferred on him the title of “Dike Di Ora Nma” of Lagos State.
The senator described his political philosophy as one centred on inclusion and the delivery of good governance, adding that infrastructure development benefits residents irrespective of their ethnic backgrounds.
“My brand of politics is politics of inclusion and delivery of good governance for all the people. When roads, schools, hospitals and other infrastructures are constructed, it is for the good of all and all law-abiding Nigerians are welcome to do business and make progress in Ogun State,” he said.
