Cruise missiles struck the “Energiya” defense-industrial enterprise in the city of Yelets in Russia’s Lipetsk region on Sunday, Oct. 25, targeting one of Russia’s foremost manufacturers of specialized power sources for guided missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles, Radio Liberty and open-source intelligence monitors reported.
Lipetsk Region Governor Igor Artamonov confirmed an attack on the municipal industrial zone on Sunday, stating that municipal emergency services and defense specialists deployed to the impact zone, while refraining from identifying the enterprise in his initial dispatches.

According to independent Russian monitoring outlet Astra and military open-source intelligence channels, incoming cruise missiles struck the production complex of the Energiya research and production enterprise.
Local monitoring channels and defense analysts suggested that the precision interdiction was executed using air-launched cruise missiles, potentially British-supplied Storm Shadow systems.
The facility functions as Russia’s largest scientific and industrial developer in the specialized field of autonomous chemical power sources, high-capacity accumulator batteries, and electrochemical energy units.
Specialized batteries for air defense, aviation, and drones
The Yelets plant occupies a critical, specialized niche within the Russia’s military-industrial complex, manufacturing electrochemical power components across military, aerospace, and civil aviation sectors.

Drones Strike Russian Titanium Producer Avisma in Urals
Drones have struck the Avisma titanium plant in Berezniki, Perm region, targeting the world’s top titanium producer vital to Russia’s defense sector.
The enterprise develops and serially manufactures autonomous power supplies, specialized primary battery arrays, and compact lithium cells integrated directly into Russian strike drones, loitering munitions, and electronic control systems.
Energiya’s power units are essential components installed within surface-to-air missile systems, airborne avionics suites, naval combat vessels, and specialized guidance complexes for ballistic and cruise platforms.
Due to its strategic integration into the Kremlin’s defense-industrial supply chain, the Energiya enterprise is subjected to comprehensive international sanctions imposed by the US, the EU, the UK, Canada, Switzerland, Japan, Australia, and Ukraine.
The facility has previously been targeted in long-range interdiction strikes. In May 2025, an aerial strike ignited a major blaze across one of the primary production workshops, followed by a separate strike reported in January 2026.
Campaign against Russian military suppliers
The missile strike on Energiya in Lipetsk region coincides with an expanding Ukrainian precision campaign systematically targeting critical suppliers of specialized components, chemical precursors, and metallurgy across Russia’s rear defense sector.
Overnight into Sunday, long-range Ukrainian strike drones hit the “Avisma” chemical-metallurgical complex in Berezniki in the Perm region – located 1,500 kilometers (932 miles) away in the Ural Mountains – damaging a core facility of the world’s largest titanium producer vital for Russian combat aircraft, jet turbines, and missile fuselages.
Concurrently on Saturday, Ukrainian precision munitions struck the Tolyattikauchuk petrochemical facility in Samara region and the Omsky Kauchuk chemical enterprise in Siberia, both of which manufacture synthetic rubbers and chemical binders essential for solid rocket propellant used in Iskander-M ballistic missiles and intercontinental systems.
Those operations followed confirmed precision Storm Shadow missile strikes on the Proton defense microelectronics complex in Oryol, which destroyed key production facilities supplying optoelectronics and power semiconductors for missile and air defense platforms.
