Colombo, Oct. 13 (Daily Mirror) - The Cabinet has approved a proposal to suspend further proceedings on the existing State Assets Management Bill and prepare a revised Bill incorporating amendments recommended by a committee of experts.
The original Bill was approved by the Cabinet on July 22, 2024, for publication in the Government Gazette and subsequent submission to Parliament. However, it could not be passed due to the dissolution of Parliament in October 2024.
Subsequently, a committee comprising officials and subject experts was appointed to review the Bill. The committee has identified the necessary amendments and prepared a preliminary draft incorporating the proposed changes.
Accordingly, the Cabinet approved the proposal submitted by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his capacity as Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, to suspend further proceedings on the Bill published in the Extraordinary Gazette dated August 2, 2024.
The Cabinet also approved instructing the Legal Draftsman to prepare a new Bill based on the preliminary draft prepared by the committee.
