Ukraine Strikes Russian Airbase With Neptune Missile, Claims Four Su-34 Bombers Destroyed
Ukraine has struck Russia’s Borisoglebsk military airfield in the Voronezh region, claiming four Su-34 fighter-bombers were destroyed and two others damaged in a major overnight operation on October 15.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the attack was carried out using Ukraine’s long-range Neptune missile system. He said the targeted aircraft had been preparing for further strikes against Ukraine and were loaded with aerial bombs.
Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed that all six Su-34M aircraft sustained varying degrees of damage. Explosions and a fire were reported at the airfield, while satellite imagery showed evidence of destruction at the site.
The Su-34 is a key Russian strike aircraft frequently used to launch guided aerial bombs against Ukrainian positions and frontline cities. The loss of multiple aircraft could affect Russia’s ability to sustain tactical air operations, although the full extent of the damage remains unclear.
Zelenskyy also reported Ukrainian long-range strikes against a facility used to store and launch attack drones in Russia’s Oryol region, as well as a separate target in the Black Sea.
Kyiv said the operations were retaliation for Russia’s continued attacks on Ukraine and warned that long-range strikes would continue as Moscow prolongs the war.
