The Cabinet has approved a proposal to change the Bengali name of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, replacing the word ‘Mahila’ (women) with ‘Naari’ (women).
The approval was given at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat on Sunday afternoon. Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani briefed reporters after the meeting.
The ministry was established as the Ministry of Women’s Affairs on 9 November 1989, and was renamed the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs on 5 May 1994.
Under the approved proposal, the Bengali name would be ‘Naari O Shishu Bishoyok Montronaloy’ in place of ‘Mahila O Shishu Bishoyok Montronaloy.’
