The 77th session of the Executive Committee of the High Commissioner's Programme of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) took place in Geneva (Swiss Confederation) from October 12 to 16, 2026. Turkmenistan was represented at this international forum by A. Sazakov, the Chairman of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan.
On October 12, during the plenary session, the head of the Turkmen delegation underlined in his statement that the humanitarian dimension serves as the priority of the state policy. In this context, the delegates of the forum were briefed on the key achievements of Turkmenistan in implementing the National Action Plan to End Statelessness, as well as on the global initiative of the Esteemed President of Turkmenistan to declare 2028 as the «Year of International Law».
On October 15, the head of the Turkmen delegation met with Barham Salih, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. During the constructive exchange of views, the sides noted with satisfaction the strategic nature of the long-standing partnership. The High Commissioner highly commended Turkmenistan's recognized leadership experience in Central Asia in eradicating statelessness and granting citizenship to persons in need of protection.
