Soccer: Venezia bring in relegation-battle specialist Nicola after sacking Stroppa

(ANSA) - ROME, 15 OTT - Venezia said Wednesday that they have appointed relegation-battle specialist Davide Nicola after sacking Giovanni Stroppa on Monday, with the side rock bottom in the Serie A table having lost all of their first six games. Nicola, 53, pulled off some memorable great escapes during stints at previous clubs Crotone, Genoa, Torino, Salernitana and Empoli. His first game in charge will be Saturday's home match against Napoli. Stroppa led the team to promotion to the top flight as Serie B champions last season and the club had recently extended his contract until 2029. (ANSA).
