Vesic and the others were indicted over the collapse of a concrete canopy at Novi Sad Railway Station on 1 November 2024 which claimed 16 lives.
Lawyer Veljko Milic said the situation put the other defendants at a disadvantage compared with the two who remain at liberty. The case concerns alleged criminal responsibility for the disaster; the defendants have not been convicted.
There has been speculation that Aleksandar Vucic pardoned some of the people indicted for the Novi Sad tragedy and the General Staff complex case before he resigned as president. Vucic said he was pardoning 49 people.
