HBO is developing a television series centred on Poison Ivy, one of Batman's iconic villains, with "The Penguin" showrunner Lauren LeFranc attached as an executive producer, Variety reported.
Poison Ivy, a villain known for controlling plants and using pheromones to manipulate people, has appeared in several live-action and animated DC productions but has never headlined her own film or television series.
The character made her live-action film debut in "Batman & Robin" (1997), played by Uma Thurman. She later appeared in television series including "Gotham" and "Batwoman".
Lake Bell voiced the character in the animated series "Harley Quinn", where Poison Ivy is the girlfriend of the titular character.
LeFranc's "The Penguin", starring Colin Farrell, received critical acclaim after its release on HBO in 2024. Farrell won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his performance in the series, a spin-off of Matt Reeves' "The Batman" (2022).
DC's screen adaptations are continuing to expand, with "Clayface", a film centred on the shape-shifting Batman villain, also in development. Reeves' Batman universe is set to continue with "The Batman Part 2", scheduled for release in 2028.
HBO is also preparing "The People vs. Gorilla Grodd", a comedy spin-off of James Gunn's "Superman", for release in 2027.
