With Durga idol immersion processions entering their final stretch, over 3,000 idols have been immersed across Hyderabad and its neighbouring police commissionerates, while hundreds more are scheduled to be taken to water bodies on Friday (October 23, 2026).
The immersion processions have also necessitated traffic arrangements around Hussain Sagar, where the Hyderabad Traffic Police announced restrictions from 3 p.m. on October 21 until 6 a.m. on October 24.
In Hyderabad, 1,625 idols were immersed as of Thursday (October 22, 2026). The immersion activities also gathered momentum in the Cyberabad, Malkajgiri and Future City Commissionerates, with October 21 witnessing particularly heavy movement of idols towards designated water bodies.
The Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate recorded 1,295 immersions at water bodies within its jurisdiction between October 20 and 8 p.m. on October 22. However, this included 510 idols brought from other commissionerates, while 785 belonged to Malkajgiri, where 1,074 idols were installed this year, excluding another 20 under the Abdullapurmet Police Station limits.
Of the locally installed idols, 96 were immersed on October 20, followed by a sharp increase to 646 on October 21. Another 43 were immersed by 8 p.m. on Thursday, leaving 289 idols awaiting immersion.
A similar increase was recorded in Cyberabad, where 791 idols were installed for the festivities. Immersions began with just one idol on October 18, followed by six on October 19 and 76 on October 20. The number surged to 482 on October 21, making it the busiest day recorded so far in the commissionerate. Another 141 idols were scheduled for immersion on Thursday, while 85 remained pending for Friday. If Thursday’s scheduled immersions were completed, Cyberabad would have accounted for 706 immersions.
In the Future City Police Commissionerate, 474 of the 517 installed idols WERE immersed by Thursday, leaving 43 pending.
Traffic diversions are being implemented on a need basis around People’s Plaza, Garden Point, Jalavihar and Sanjeevaiah Park, which are among the locations affected by the movement of immersion processions.
Motorists travelling through the Tank Bund and Necklace Road corridors may also encounter diversions at V.V. Statue, Nirankari Junction, Old Police Station Saifabad, Ravindra Bharathi and Masab Tank, depending on the movement of processions and traffic conditions.
The restrictions are intended to facilitate the movement of vehicles carrying idols towards immersion points while regulating regular traffic on roads surrounding Hussain Sagar.
The numbers also highlight the movement of idols across police commissionerate boundaries. In Malkajgiri alone, nearly 40% of the 1,295 immersions recorded at water bodies within its limits involved idols brought from other jurisdictions.
Across Cyberabad, Malkajgiri and Future City, 417 locally installed idols were either pending immersion or scheduled for Friday as per the latest available figures, while the final count for Hyderabad was yet to be updated.
With immersion activities continuing through Friday, the traffic restrictions around Hussain Sagar are scheduled to remain in place until 6 a.m. on Saturday (October 24, 2026).
