During the hearing, state prosecutor Sumon said the accused were involved in the murder and sought an order to show them as arrested. Lawyers for the accused, including Morshed Hossain Shaheen, opposed the petition. With the court’s permission, Sultan Mansur told the court that he had been abroad with his family during the July Uprising.

A Dhaka court has granted a police petition to show former lawmaker Sultan Mohammad Mansur Ahmed and Seroniyabat Moinuddin Ahmed Abdullah, son of former lawmaker Abul Hasnat Abdullah, arrested in a case over the murder of BNP activist Mokbul Hossain in Paltan.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam passed the order today (18 October).
The investigating officer, Detective Branch (DB) Sub-Inspector Md Toffazzal Hossain, earlier filed the petition seeking to show the two arrested in the case. They were brought to court for the hearing.
During the hearing, state prosecutor Sumon said the accused were involved in the murder and sought an order to show them as arrested. Lawyers for the accused, including Morshed Hossain Shaheen, opposed the petition. With the court's permission, Sultan Mansur told the court that he had been abroad with his family during the July Uprising.
"If I had committed any crime, I would not have returned to the country. Moreover, this case concerns an incident from 2022. At that time, I was with Gono Forum, not the Awami League," he said, also seeking legal assistance from the court. After hearing both sides, the court granted the petition to show the two arrested in the case.
According to the case complaint, the BNP announced a programme on 10 December 2022 as part of its one-point demand. Earlier, on 7 December, then-DB chief Harun Or Rashid, along with Mehedi Hasan and Biplob Kumar, led an operation at the BNP's Naya Paltan office.
The case alleges that the office was vandalised and party leaders and activists were attacked in the surrounding area. BNP activist Mokbul was shot and killed during the incident, according to the case files.
Mahfuzur Rahman filed the case at Paltan Model Police Station on 30 September 2024. Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 255 others were named as accused.
Sultan Mansur was arrested at the immigration section of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on 1 October 2024 after returning from Canada.
On the same day, he was shown arrested in the murder case of Jubo Dal leader Shamim and placed on remand. He has remained in jail since then. The DB arrested Moinuddin in the Gulshan 2 area of Dhaka on 26 October 2024. He has remained in jail since his arrest.
