The Murang’a
County government has moved to court to challenge the shutdown of the Afya.ke
digital health platform by the national government.
In court
documents, the county says the Ministry of Health, through its agents, switched
off the digital system as part of the transition to the Health Management
Information System (HMIS), leaving more than 170 health facilities unable to
operate normally.
The county argues
that HMIS lacks the capacity to support telemedicine, a function it says is
central to healthcare delivery in its facilities.
It further warns
that the transition threatens patients who rely on telemedicine services,
particularly those suffering from non-communicable diseases.
Murang’a is now
seeking court orders to halt the shutdown and ensure continuity of healthcare
services across the county.
