Sangmidang Holdings said on the 14th that it has donated 30,000 coal briquettes to households struggling to heat their homes in winter, with executives and staff delivering the fuel in person.
Employees from Sangmidang Holdings affiliates visited Jeonwon Village in Seoul's Seocho District the previous day and handed 2,000 briquettes directly to residents who rely on coal through the winter. About 30 executives and staff took part, including BR Korea CEO Cho Yoon-sang, SPC GFS CEO Yoon Jin, Sectanine CEO Han Soon-wook and Samlip Food Business Unit head Kang Yeon-joong. The 30,000 briquettes donated by the company will be distributed in stages to low-income households facing energy hardship across Seoul, starting with Jeonwon Village. The company also set up steamers on site to serve Samlip steamed buns to residents.
The Babsang Community Coal Bank expects the donation to ease winter heating costs for 150 households in Seoul. Sangmidang Holdings has run the coal-sharing program with the organization since 2020, bringing its cumulative total, including this year's donation, to 150,000 briquettes.
"It was meaningful for our employees to carry the briquettes themselves and share steamed buns, helping our neighbors prepare for winter in some small way," an official at Sangmidang Holdings said. "We will continue to seek out places where our help can make a real difference in the community."
