Petrus Munyoka Munyoka (35), who faces a count of murder read with the Combating of Domestic Violence Act and assault with intention to do grievous bodily harm appeared for pre-trial proceedings yesterday before Windhoek High Court Deputy Judge President Hannelie Prinsloo.
The State alleges that Munyoka murdered Dorothea Shikongo on 19 June 2024 near Ozohambo location in Otjinene in the district of Gobabis.
It further alleges that he, during the same period, assaulted Rodney Venaani by tripping him, jumping on his body and hitting him after he fell.
The accused and the deceased were involved in a romantic or perceived intimate relationship, residing together in the nature of marriage. It is alleged the matter arose following the accused drinking at a residence at the time and stressing about late work payment.
Following the arrival of the deceased, who insulted him at the same residence, Munyoka allegedly remarked that he would kill her.
It is alleged that later during the day, Munyoka kicked the deceased, hit her on the head with stones, strangled her, and followed by trying to suffocate her by throwing sand in her mouth. She died on the scene due to head injuries.
On the second count, it is alleged he assaulted a security officer who was attempting to help the deceased at the time.
The matter was postponed to 18 November 2026 for the State represented by Antonia Verhoef to consider the plea.
