The current iPad mini sells for $599 in its starting 128 GB configuration. Apple is set to introduce the next-generation iPad mini later this month and — while the starting storage may increase — interested buyers should start probably bracing for a price rise.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says he is hearing that the new iPad mini will be “considerably more expensive”, floating a new price closer to the $799 mark.
If that turned out to be the case, it would represent a $200 jump compared to the current iPad mini baseline, and slot it above the 11-inch iPad Air starting price in the current lineup.
Of course, Apple will argue that you are getting more product for that money. The new iPad mini is expected to feature an OLED display for the first time, with a new chassis design including thinner bezels.
The new iPad mini is also getting upgraded speaker system and a much more powerful chip upgrade. We believe it will be powered by the A20 Pro chip, the same chip as found in Apple’s high-end iPhone 18 Pro models.
However, it remains unclear whether the OLED display in the new iPad mini will be technically comparable to the iPad Pro’s industry-leading tandem OLED panel. There have also been conflicting reports about whether it will support 120Hz ProMotion.
The new iPad mini should be announced at a media event later this month, alongside new OLED MacBook Pros. But first, on Tuesday, Apple will host a ‘Welcome home’ event where it will unveil a new smart home strategy, including its first smart home display product.
