FALMOUTH, Trelawny — The Trelawny Police Division has launched its Beat Officer Patrol Division (BOPD) as part of efforts to strengthen police visibility, improve law enforcement and reduce criminal activities in the town of Falmouth.
The unit was officially launched last week by Superintendent Velonique Campbell, commanding officer of the Trelawny Police Division, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Shamar Edwards, operations officer.
The BOPD will focus on a range of offences and public safety concerns, including drug trafficking, prostitution, larceny and harassment of visitors. Its operations will also include security checks at gas stations and financial institutions, traffic management and enforcement of the Road Traffic Act.
The initiative is aimed at promoting proactive policing and improving public safety, particularly in Falmouth’s commercial and tourism sectors.

During the launch, the divisional leadership underscored the importance of effective law enforcement and building public confidence in the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
The team was given a clear directive: “Your mandate is to own the town,” emphasising its responsibility to tackle criminal activities, maintain order and ensure a stronger police presence throughout Falmouth.
Following the briefing, the cops, accompanied by members of the divisional management team, began their first tour of duty in the town.
During the exercise, they engaged business stakeholders and members of the public as part of efforts to strengthen community relations and support crime prevention initiatives.
The launch forms part of the division’s continued focus on visible, proactive policing and creating a safer environment for residents, business operators and visitors to Falmouth.
