The parliamentary standing committee on the public administration ministry has recommended identifying officials responsible for non-cooperation or negligence in implementing government work.
The committee also asked for action against such officials, and an inquiry into slow-moving projects under the ministry, taking their budget allocations into account.
The recommendations came at the committee’s first meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban yesterday, with its Chairman Sayeed Ahmed in the chair, the Parliament Secretariat said in a statement.
The committee advised officials to coordinate their work at the field level to implement the ruling BNP’s 31-point reform agenda. It also asked for action against those failing to cooperate with the government’s efforts to implement its “Bangladesh First” policy.
Sayeed asked officials to inform the committee of any legal, administrative or practical obstacles to implementing decisions, and to submit relevant documents without withholding information.
“You must not forget that you are employees of the republic, not of any party, individual or group,” he added.
He also stressed the use of digital services and information technology to make public services faster and easier, strengthen accountability and curb irregularities.
Officials presented reports on the activities of agencies under the ministry, including the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre, BCS Administration Academy, Bangladesh Employees Welfare Board and Government Employees Hospital.
At the start of the meeting, the committee adopted a condolence motion over the death of former Dhaka-4 MP and BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed.
State Minister for Public Administration Abdul Bari, other committee members, and senior officials of the ministry and the Parliament Secretariat attended the meeting.
