The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has cited a US$130 million spot foreign exchange sale at GH¢11.60 per dollar as part of efforts to support the cedi and strengthen stability on the foreign exchange market.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, October 22, the Board said its interventions were helping to improve dollar liquidity at a time when the cedi had recorded more than three consecutive weeks of appreciation against the US dollar on the interbank market.
GoldBod said the interventions were intended to ease pressure on the local currency by increasing the supply of foreign exchange to the market.
As part of its October 2026 programme, the Board plans to supply US$1 billion to authorised commercial banks and provide an additional US$500 million to the Bank of Ghana for reserve accumulation.
The planned US$1.5 billion supply forms part of GoldBod’s broader foreign exchange intervention programme, which it says is aimed at supporting the recovery and stability of the Ghana cedi.
The Board said its efforts remained focused on foreign exchange market stability and contributing to Ghana’s wider economic recovery.
