Fulham manager latest, Thomas Frank linked as pressure grows on Alvaro Arbeloa
Fulham are moving into an important stretch of the season, with increasing attention on Alvaro Arbeloa’s position and Thomas Frank now described as a serious contender if the club decides to act. According to Talksport, the former Brentford and Tottenham boss is firmly in the frame should results force Fulham into a change.
There is a familiar pattern to these situations. Publicly, clubs often preach calm. Privately, matches begin to carry more weight, and that appears to be the case at Craven Cottage. Arbeloa has yet to win any of his opening six games in charge, and Saturday’s home fixture against Hull has taken on obvious significance. A trip to Coventry follows, and there is a growing sense that those two matches could shape the immediate direction of Fulham’s season.

Frank has been out of work since leaving Tottenham in February, but his stock remains high in Premier League circles. He knows the division, he knows the demands of building a competitive side, and he would arrive with a clear identity. That said, any move would come at a cost, with the report indicating he would command a substantial salary. Fulham would need to weigh that against the broader implications of making a managerial change so early in the campaign.
Other names are also said to be under consideration, including Kieran McKenna, who had previously featured prominently on Fulham’s shortlist before the club appointed Arbeloa. That detail matters, because it suggests there has already been internal work done on alternative candidates.
Alvaro Arbeloa facing key Fulham fixtures
Arbeloa attempted to project defiance after the 2-1 defeat at Ipswich, pushing back on suggestions that pressure is building. Even so, results have left little room for comfort. More notably, the report points to concerns behind the scenes, with tensions believed to exist between the head coach and some senior players. That tends to be where situations become more difficult to stabilise, particularly when performances have yet to produce momentum.
Fulham’s hierarchy now face a delicate call. They can hold their nerve and back the current appointment, or they can prepare for a swift reset if the next two games deepen concern. Frank’s availability ensures there is already a credible and proven option in the market, which often changes the mood around these decisions.
Our View
From a Fulham supporter’s perspective, this is the kind of report that sparks equal amounts of anxiety and curiosity. Six games without a win is not a good look, and if there truly are issues with senior players already, that is probably the most worrying part of all. A new manager needs time, but he also needs buy-in, and without that, things can unravel quickly.
Thomas Frank is an understandable name to admire. He has Premier League credibility, experience of raising standards and a reputation for building structure. For Fulham, that sounds appealing. He would also bring a level of authority that could settle a nervous environment quite quickly. You can see why the idea would gain traction.
At the same time, there is a part of the fanbase that may feel it is too soon to completely abandon Arbeloa. He walked into a difficult job, expectations are always tricky at Fulham, and panic rarely leads to long-term clarity. The next two matches therefore feel huge, not only for results but for the mood around the club.
If Fulham beat Hull and then take something at Coventry, this could all cool down. If not, the noise will become impossible to ignore. Frank would be a statement appointment, and probably one that many fans would accept. But the real concern is whether Fulham have already drifted into uncertainty before the season has had a chance to breathe.
