Amazon Prime’s broadcast of Thursday Night Football continues to take a battering from some NFL fans following the New England Patriots’ loss to the Chicago Bears.
Thursday Night Football has offered some pretty brutal games to watch over the years, but the Week Seven game at Soldier Field was not one of them. Commentator Al Michaels has seen his role come under scrutiny over recent months but he was let off the hook on Thursday.
It was, however, his Amazon Prime colleague Kirk Herbstreit who came under the heat of the viewers on Thursday for some of his comments. Some fans are even suggesting that Michaels’ recent struggles in the booth have overshadowed how little Herbstreit is offering.
Kirk Herbstreit comes under fire from NFL fans after Thursday Night Football
Herbstreit has become renowned for his work in college football as he is regularly flying across the country with his dog to cover some of the biggest games of the week. However, his work on Thursday night’s NFL game did not go down well.
‘I forgive Al Michael’s hes 81 and a legend. But Kirk Herbstreit is one of the worst NFL announcers, routinely adds nothing commentary wise. A baffling hire with Amazon’s funding. “I wonder if New England will use a timeout here” – context is it’s 2nd and 4 with <1 minute,’ said one fan on X.
‘He doesn’t care about Thursday nights, I love him on college football calls,’ replied another.
Amazon’s coverage is taking somewhat of a beating over recent weeks with fans also left far from impressed with Al Michaels’ commentary. However, Michaels was outdone by Herbstreit in the game between the Bears and the Patriots.
‘You’re right…Michaels is so bad that Herbstreit gets almost unnoticed for how awful he is,’ added another fan.
‘I am not being hyperbolic when I say I actively avoid Thursday games solely because of them. Only duo that’s genuinely unwatchable,’ an NFL fan even said.
With Troy Aikman potentially heading for the exit door at ESPN, Amazon could certainly improve their product by adding the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback who is on track to become a free agent next year.
‘Herbstreit is the NCAAF version of Jim Nantz Both overrated and should be replaced,’ said another fan.
‘Muted all game!’ replied another.
