The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has dismissed reports alleging that it has restricted subject choices for certain students or altered Nigeria’s national curriculum, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement issued by the Head of Media and Public Affairs Department, Moyosola Adeshina, the Council clarified that it does not determine, alter or restrict the national curriculum.
WAEC explained that curriculum design falls within the responsibility of the Federal Ministry of Education, stressing that the Council operates in line with approved national standards.
The examination body urged education stakeholders, parents, students and members of the public to disregard the reports, warning against the spread of unverified information capable of creating confusion within the education sector.
It also advised the public to obtain accurate information and updates exclusively through its official website and verified media platforms.
The clarification follows reports suggesting that changes had been introduced to students’ subject options and the national curriculum, raising concerns among stakeholders in the education sector.
Reaffirming its commitment to established educational standards, WAEC urged members of the public to verify information through authorised channels before sharing it.
