The Sacramento Kings received encouraging news about Maxime Raynaud after the rookie center suffered a frightening knee injury during Saturday’s preseason game against the Golden State Warriors.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, an MRI revealed a right patellar subluxation, and the team announced that he will be reevaluated in two weeks. The diagnosis comes as a relief after Raynaud had to leave the court in a wheelchair.
The initial visuals looked concerning, leaving fans wondering whether it was a potentially serious injury, but further testing ruled out significant ligament damage.

Raynaud injured his right knee while setting a screen for rookie point guard Darius Acuff Jr. His knee gave out as Acuff moved around him, leaving the center on the floor in visible pain. Coach Doug Christie called a timeout and went to check on him as teammates and medical staff gathered around.
Raynaud was taken to the locker room in a wheelchair and initially could not put weight on his right leg. He was later helped onto crutches. Kings general manager Scott Perry and team owner Vivek Ranadive also visited him during the game.
Although Raynaud is expected to miss the start of the regular season, the two-week reevaluation timeline is a positive development given the initial concerns. His recovery will depend on how the knee responds over the coming weeks, and the team has not announced a return date.
The 7-foot-1 center is an important part of Sacramento’s frontcourt plans. He made the All-Rookie Second Team last season after averaging 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds across 74 games. Selected 42nd overall in the 2025 NBA Draft, Raynaud quickly established himself as a valuable contributor.
