Changwon's Marine, Port and Fisheries Bureau said it held the "2026 Smart Port Touring Day" around Jinhae New Port on Oct. 20 and 22. About 80 students from Changwon Technical High School and the Changwon campus of Korea Polytechnic University took part.
The tour was organized to introduce local young people to relevant companies and industrial sites and help them explore career paths, in step with changes in the port logistics industry such as the development of a smart mega port and the creation of a hinterland city for the Arctic shipping route.
After reviewing the development status and future vision of Jinhae New Port at the new port promotion hall, students visited Dongwon Global Terminal Busan and PNC Terminal. They watched cranes in operation and container unloading, examining the technology applied to port systems and the flow of logistics at the terminals.
The final stop was Jinhae Marine Park. Students took in views of Jinhae New Port and attended a special lecture by port and logistics experts on industry prospects, job duties and how to prepare for employment.
"I didn't know our Changwon had such a large port and logistics companies," students said after the tour. "I want to take on the port and logistics field and become a central part of the growth of Jinhae New Port, the driving force behind Changwon's development."
"Jinhae New Port is a future growth engine for Changwon and a key foundation that will provide new job opportunities for young people," said Cho Sung-min, director of the Marine, Port and Fisheries Bureau. "I hope this tour sparks local young people's interest in the port logistics industry and helps students design their future career paths."
