PETALING JAYA: The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has cancelled Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) registration after rejecting the opposition coalition’s explanation in response to an earlier notice concerning its registration status.
In a statement today, RoS said the decision followed a review of documents and representations submitted by PN on Oct 12 in response to a notice issued on Sept 22 under subsection 13(2) of the Societies Act 1966.

The department said PN had been given an opportunity to explain its position and respond to the matters raised in the notice before a final decision was made.
“After examining all the documents and explanations submitted, the Registrar of Societies found that the reasons provided failed to rebut the grounds for cancellation outlined in the notice and did not offer sufficient justification to maintain the coalition’s registration,” it said.
Consequently, the registrar decided to cancel PN’s registration under subparagraph 13(1)(c)(iv) of the Societies Act 1966.
RoS stressed that all registered organisations must comply with the provisions of the Act and their respective constitutions.
It added that the department would continue to discharge its regulatory and enforcement responsibilities firmly, fairly and in accordance with the law to ensure orderly, transparent and accountable governance among registered organisations.
Formed in 2020, PN comprises several opposition parties, including Bersatu, PAS and Gerakan.
The coalition emerged as a major political force following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan administration and subsequently formed the federal government under then prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
PN became the main opposition bloc following the 15th General Election in November 2022, after Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim formed the unity government.
Since then, the coalition has remained a key player in national politics, particularly in Malay-majority constituencies.
