Manchester City’s unblemished Premier League record is at stake away at Aston Villa on Saturday as Enzo Maresca’s leaders hope to reach eight wins on the trot. City enter Week 8 with a perfect seven wins from seven, but face a Villa side in full flow after going six matches unbeaten across all competitions.
City has won all but one of its 11 games across all competitions this term, the only stain on that record being a 4-2 loss at home to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Nevertheless, the Citizens continue to tear up trees domestically and have since restored some faith in Europe following a 5-1 hammering of AEK Athens.
Villa was also triumphant in the Champions League this past week after beating Norwegian side Viking 3-1 at home on Wednesday. That result gave Unai Emery’s side their third straight win, not to mention the Villans managed to pull off a home-and-away double over City in the Premier League last term.
That’s enough to put Maresca on high alert travelling to Villa Park, especially with Antoni Semenyo looking at several months on the sidelines and Josko Gvardiol in doubt. Amadou Onana, Matteo Ruggeri and Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be absent for the hosts, meanwhile, but Ian Maatsen should return at left-back after a six-week absence.
