Jonathan Tah spent an entire decade at Bayer Leverkusen before deciding to do something different. Having joined Die Werkself in 2015, he left for Bayern Munich in 2025 and joined up with the Vincent Kompany-led Bavarians. The move has been a big success thus far, as he has carved out a role as the most-used center-back under Kompany in the 2025/26 season.
As much as Kompany values Tah, though, Tah values him just as much. As a former center back, Kompany has been able to give Tah special attention and assistance in training, something Tah believes has made him a better player.
“He has improved me a lot,” Tah explained in a recent interview with The Times (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “He’s someone who really sees the whole picture. Looks beyond the game, beyond the pitch. He’s really focused on developing the personality of a player and wants me to be a leader like he was. He’s so young, you watch how he handles things as a coach and sometimes feel he’s doing the same thing he would as a player. We’re convinced that with this identity, if we bring it, we can win every game.”
Tah’s role within the team will continue to evolve and he seems to have made some strong improvements under Kompany. If he can keep that going, he could continue to be a vital piece of the Bayern Munich puzzle for the rest of this season (and hopefully longer).
