Kenyan authorities have announced that the country’s total number of Ebola cases has risen to eight following confirmation of a new infection.
Reuters reported early Monday, October 19, that Kenyan health officials informed local media of the development on Sunday.
According to the report, authorities said 38 people were tested on Sunday, with one testing positive for Ebola.
The newly infected individual was reportedly a patient’s attendant responsible for cleaning dishes and bed linens.
Kenya has meanwhile been placed on high alert as the Ebola outbreak, centered in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), has crossed borders and spread across the region.
The DRC confirmed on Sunday that the outbreak had reached its eighth province, intensifying concerns about further regional spread of the disease.
