TL;DR
- Hot US CPI (+3.7% y/y, Core +2.6%) sent Bitcoin down over $1,000 to $82,856. Ethereum fell below $2,500.
- Standard Chartered opens BTC and ETH trading for wealthy UAE clients after XRPL integration, while Evernorth (XRPN) lists on Nasdaq.
- Next: Beige Book (Oct 14), PPI (Oct 15), Warsh speech (Oct 16), Fed meeting (Oct 28).
The cryptocurrency market is emerging from the consolidation phase right now following the release of critically important macroeconomic data from the US. The September Consumer Price Index (CPI) showed accelerating inflation across all components: the annual figure rose to +3.7% (+3.6% expected), while the underlying Core CPI climbed to +2.6% y/y, provoking a harsh reaction in financial markets.
The release of "hot" data triggered an instant jump in US Treasury yields, a +2.55% rise in the VIX volatility index, and a -1.10% drop in gold. Traders across all markets are urgently reassessing risks in light of the return of inflationary pressure on the eve of the Fed meeting.
The local support for spot prices, recorded in the morning reports on US ETFs for October 13, has been completely offset by the reaction to the inflation shock. On the eve of the release, Bitcoin funds attracted $175.62 million (mainly through Fidelity FBTC — $103 million and BlackRock IBIT — $66 million), while Ether ETFs added $24.80 million, ending a ten-day streak of outflows as per SoSoValue.

Despite this reversal, the overall five-day net trend at the start of October remained negative (minus $600 million), which predetermined the buyers' vulnerability to the release of the statistics.

Investors' focus is now shifting to assessing the Fed's hawkish inflation scenario. In parallel, the market is digesting major infrastructure shifts in the UAE, where Standard Chartered is opening retail trading of Bitcoin and Ether, as well as the morning news block on the Evernorth listing on Nasdaq and the integration of AI agents into the XRP Ledger.
The Emirates open retail gateways. But only for the wealthy
The financial conglomerate Standard Chartered is opening direct trading of Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) for wealthy private clients in the UAE through existing bank accounts. This is the first such service from an international bank in this jurisdiction.
- Mechanics: The platform is deployed as a closed internal system (closed-loop system). The bank independently provides custodial storage and settlement of trades.
- Regulation: The activity is licensed by the Dubai Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA). Access is limited to professional investors who meet capital and experience requirements.
The release is part of the SC Ventures strategy, which previously invested in the operators Zodia Custody, Zodia Markets, and the Libeara platform. In July 2025, the bank launched institutional spot trading of BTC/ETH in the UK; in September 2026, it expanded it to the UAE corporate sector, and has now scaled the solution to the retail premium segment.
The launch of the retail line was preceded by the deployment of custody infrastructure based on the XRP Ledger (XRPL). On October 12, the Standard Chartered branch in DIFC (Dubai) launched institutional custody for Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin.
Together with Ripple and LMAX Group, the bank is implementing a collateral-mirroring setup. The scheme allows RLUSD to be used as trading collateral in real time while keeping the assets within Standard Chartered's custody perimeter.
The bank's management emphasizes that the integration is focused exclusively on the ledger's stablecoins and does not involve trading or holding the native XRP token on the balance sheet.
The cheaper treasury and AI agents on the ledger. What else happened this morning
At this hour, the treasury company Evernorth Holdings is preparing for the closing bell ceremony on Nasdaq at 16:00 New York time. The event is timed to the listing of shares under the ticker XRPN, whose trading began on October 12 following the SPAC deal with Armada.
- Evernorth metrics: The company's treasury holds 473 million XRP and has raised approximately $300 million in gross capital. Due to the decline in XRP's market value from $2.37 at the time of signing the agreement to an estimated $1.43 in the SPAC filings, the current stack is valued at $648.01 million. This represents a significant paper discount relative to the original valuations.
- Capital structure: SBI Holdings controls 39.9% of Class A shares, Arrington Capital fund — 19.9%. Ripple's stake is subject to a six-month lock-up agreement. XRPN shares confirm the status of a treasury instrument, not a spot ETF.

In parallel, Ripple is rolling out a partnership with the provider Privy (a Stripe subsidiary) to integrate embedded wallets into applications based on the XRP Ledger. The solution automates fiat gateways, RLUSD transactions, and AI agent operations. According to Ripple, the ledger currently records 13 million payments via AI agents (25% of all network activity).

Other changes in the corporate sector:
- M&A in the EU: The parent structure of the Kraken exchange (Payward) is buying the Lithuanian Saldo Bank. The deal, scheduled for 2027, will allow Kraken to integrate traditional deposits and lending with clients' crypto portfolios without forced liquidation of their digital assets.
- XRPL updates: The amendments BatchV1_1 (on ledger 107,540,993) and fixBatchV1_2 are being activated on the mainnet. The Permission Delegation feature has also been launched. Servers on old builds switch to blocking mode (amendment-blocked) until upgraded to xrpld version 3.4.1.
Crypto market outlook. What to expect after the CPI release
The technical picture shows an emergency unloading of margin positions, triggered by the inflation shock from the US. The one-minute Bitcoin (BTC) chart recorded a vertical dump: immediately before the CPI release, the asset was at a local peak around $83,800, then fell by more than $1,000. Amid the market-wide decline, the Bitcoin dominance index came close to the 60% mark (59.48%), concentrating liquidity in the main systemic asset. Right now, BTC is trading on spot exchanges at $82,856 (-0.29% over the day).
The nearest macroeconomic triggers of the current week:
- Wednesday, October 14 (21:00 UTC): The Fed's "Beige Book" economic review.
- Thursday, October 15 (15:30 UTC): Producer Price Index (PPI) and US unemployment data.
- Friday, October 16 (06:30 UTC): Speech by Fed Chair Kevin Warsh.

Positioning of the leading assets at the moment of the impulse:
- Bitcoin (BTC): The cryptocurrency is trying to hold steady after the dump around $82,856. The acceleration of the annual CPI to 3.7% increases the likelihood of hawkish Fed rhetoric at the October 28 meeting. Local support is shifting to the psychological level of $82,000, where large corporate purchases traditionally form a long-term consolidation price floor.
- Ethereum (ETH): Corrected to $2,484.37 (-0.56% over the day) at 10.84% dominance. The token failed to hold the $2,500 level, where the morning pressure from large spot sellers was aggravated by the reaction to the inflation print. The short-term resistance zone has now moved to $2,544, which was the morning's local peak.
- Derivatives statistics: The inflation print triggered a wave of forced closures. The daily volume of liquidations on futures venues jumped to $162.11 million, affecting the positions of 61,149 traders as per CoinGlass. Liquidations of buyers dominated the market: longs accounted for 65.3% ($105.90 million).
