State House Director of Communications Myk Berewa has predicted victory for the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) in the 2028 presidential election, citing the party’s electoral strength and the perceived acceptability of a potential successor to President Julius Maada Bio.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Berewa said the SLPP was entering the race from a strong position, pointing to its performance in the 2023 presidential election and its support base in the southeastern region.
“Why We’ll Win in 2028: We’re starting from a strong position—with 56.17% of the popular vote, a rock-solid Southeastern base, and a successor to President Bio who’s widely accepted at home and abroad. So, wusia wuna dea pass? Who can surpass us?” he wrote.
Berewa was referring to the 56.17 per cent vote share attributed to President Bio in the 2023 presidential election.
He argued that the SLPP’s support in the Southeast, coupled with the perceived acceptability of a potential successor to Bio both locally and internationally, would strengthen the party’s prospects in 2028.
His Krio rhetorical question, “Wusia wuna dea pass?”, which he translated as “Who can surpass us?”, was used to express confidence in the party’s electoral position.
The statement comes as political discussions gather momentum ahead of the 2028 general elections, with attention increasingly focused on succession within both the SLPP and the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC).
Berewa’s prediction has attracted mixed reactions on social media, with some SLPP supporters expressing agreement while others have challenged his assessment of the party’s prospects.
The 2028 presidential election is expected to be a major test for both parties as they seek to consolidate their support bases and position themselves for the contest.
